Coach Calv ACT Tutoring
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

If you are a parent looking to understand how ACT tutoring works and how it can help your student raise their score and earn scholarship money, you are in the right place.

I have helped over 100 students improve their ACT score, with average score increases of nearly 4 points, with $10 million in scholarship offers. Below are answers to the most common questions I receive from families before they get started.

When Should My Child Begin ACT Tutoring?

I always recommend that your child starts studying for the ACT in the summer before his/her junior year. This way, they can begin to prepare and take the ACT during their junior year. Sparingly studying during the year, and starting to study seriously during Christmas break of that year is key.

Students should treat studying for the ACT like a full-time job the moment their junior year ends. According to a study conducted by me, an hour of studying during the summer is worth at least $500 an hour in scholarships, which is worth much more than the $8 an hour your child may earn working a summer job.

How Much Can My Child Improve their ACT Score with Tutoring?

My students average a 4 point composite improvement, and I have had students increase their score by as much as 8 points. Examples of score increases are 15 to 23, 27 to 31, 30 to 34, and 18 to 26.

I have had average score gains of 5.9 in English, 5.7 in Science, and 5.4 in Reading. I have helped multiple students earn full-ride and full-tuition scholarships.

What’s Included in your ACT Tutoring Program?

Each student begins with a one-time $400 ACT prep packet, which includes over 40 hours of expert video instruction and textbooks I’ve created myself. I design custom lesson plans based on your child’s needs, and I supplement their work with 1-on-1 sessions ($100 each) to reinforce strategy and understanding.

It’s a hybrid approach: structured but flexible, and built to get results.

How How Many Sessions Does My Child Need and How Often?

In my experience, students who use my teaching videos typically need 3-4 sessions per test section in order to perform to their best ability. This can differ based on score improvement goals.

I recommend students to have sessions with me once a week during the summer, with up to twice a week in our intensive program. During the school year, I recommend once or twice a month, depending on how dedicated the student is during the school year.

How Do You Help Students Earn Scholarships through ACT Improvements?

My students have been offered over $10 million in scholarships, and accepted more than $2 million in scholarships, with an average of $36,000 in accepted scholarships. Going from a 25 to a 29 or to a 30+ can dramatically scholarship offers, and I coach students specifically on maximizing these score jumps.

Who is this Program a Good Fit For?

I’ve worked with over 100 students in the last 10 years, ranging from first-time testers to repeat testers aiming for competitive scholarships. I’ve also supported students with ADHD, autism, and learning challenges.

This program works best for students who are ready to improve and want a clear plan. If your child needs in-person accountability or struggles to stay engaged online, I can advise whether this format is the right fit.

How Does Online Tutoring Work? Is It as Effective as In-Person?

Yes! My remote system is designed for efficiency and results. Students meet with me online for live coaching and strategy, while completing video lessons on their own schedule between sessions. The hybrid format ensures they get the best of both worlds.

Do You Offer a Free Trial or Consultation?

I don’t offer free trials, but I’m happy to answer questions before we begin. My results speak for themselves, and I’m confident in the system I’ve built. If you’re interested in learning more, reach out directly and we’ll see if your child is a good fit.
